I attended a funeral yesterday for the mother of a colleague of mine.
She was 81 years old. She had served the Lord her whole life.
The church was packed; it was full of preachers. She and her husband started a church in San Antonio while raising three boys in the sixties.
I looked at the family pictures posted around the room and in every one of them she is smiling and looking straight at the camera. Her eyes were inviting.
I met her once a few years back but did not have the chance to visit with her.
Every preacher who stood behind the pulpit yesterday to share memories "got the preach on". Some remembered her, some remembered her love for people, some remembered where she found her strength and purpose.
At the graveside, to show they were committed to following her, her grandchildren released balloons into the sky. I could imagine the catching away of the bride of Christ as those balloons flew out of sight.
It was a wonderful service which gave honor to her and her Jesus.
