The Money Changers

The new convert who sits by me during service was excited to tell me that the financial officer of the church had explained to her how to pay her tithes and offering online. She went on to explain she pays all her bills online.

I responded by saying that I considered bringing my offering and tithes to the altar to be part of my worship and I didn’t consider it a “bill” to pay.

She gasped when she realized and told me she would reconsider this new method of convenience.

This caused me to think of the church which builds itself around modern conveniences and loses chances for consecrated worship. What will technology morph us into as the church of our living God?

I wonder if this is why the temple had money changers outside of it. It may have started as a good idea and then became obscene.

There is no easy way to check a sacrifice for spots or blemishes other than turn the animal upside down and go through the hairs to the skin. I don’t think it was ever a matter of convenience.

I like to be able to pay my tithes online....that way, it can truely be "firstfruits" (the first $$ that comes out of my check).

This is really a matter of perspective. You may think donating online takes the worship out of...I think of it as the opportunity to truely be the "first thing".

At least your new convert friend is paying her tithes...many people these days don't.
