King James Version

Proverbs 10:19
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

The Living Bible

Proverbs 10:19
Don't talk so much. You keep putting your foot in your mouth. Be sensible and turn off the flow!

Who ARE these people who come up with these translations????

KJV is a translation.

The Living Bible is a paraphrase.

Translations are usually done by a team of scholars.

A paraphrase is often done by a person or small group of persons who wish to reach a specific audience, perhaps those with limited English or a low reading level. Usually the paraphrase deals with ideas and uses the vernacular in order to get the gist of the original across to the reader.

This is what one website (stason.org) says about the KJV:
The King James Version (KJV), sometimes called the Authorized Version (AV) was quite revolutionary when it came out in 1611(and was revised a few times to correct its large collection of typos). It is still very popular, in spite of its archaic and difficult to understand language. Indeed, there is a cult-like following of this translation that claims that this is the only true Word of God, superior even to the original languages. While that claim is bizarre, there are a vociferous few people on this news group who hold to that opinion. The King James Version of the Holy Bible is in the Public Domain. You can publish, copy, distribute it for free, or sell it, all without having to ask anyone's permission.

This is what the same website says about the Living Bible:
The Living Bible (TLB)is a paraphrase of the KJV that sacrifices accuracy for readability. Sometimes in makes a point pretty well. Sometimes the flashlight in Psalms 119:105 bothers me,though. Copyrighted.
Hope this helps :-) N.
