Though favor is shown to the wicked, yet they do not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness they deal perversely and refuse to see the majesty of the Lord. Isaiah 26:10 (Amplified)
In the passage of Psalm 7:9, David sings about the Lord trying our hearts and reins. Jeremiah talks about the Lord of hosts trying the reins and hearts in chapter 11 verse 20.
In the above scripture from Isaiah, he tells us that it doesn't matter if the Lord answers prayers and shows favor to those who are not actively living for Him, they won't learn righteousness from that answered prayer. The way we could learn to walk in righteousness is if we answer His call when He tests (tries) what controls our decisions (reins) and checks our heart. This is how to develop communication with a Living God.
If you keep Him far enough away from you that you do not establish easy communication, then you save yourself from answering His requests.
The problem with that is when people "get into a pickle" and they know where the answer is, when they start praying like mad for an answer even if He showed them favor, they wouldn't learn righteousness.
First things first - God is righteous. He wants us to benefit from His righteousness. He knows how to direct each individual in His righteousness. He knows how to eradicate anything that stands in the way of us benefiting from His righteousness (and favor). His eradication of those things involve us laying down our way and choosing His way.
